ITIA Welcomes Minister Donohoe’s initiative
The ITIA welcomes Minister Donohoe’s initiative to apply two Penalty Points and a €80 fine if you drive a car with defective or worn tyres. The penalty points increase to four following a conviction in court. Paddy Murphy Acting President of the ITIA said “We welcome any initiative that will save lives and this will, as we saw from the recent RSA study that defective tyres were “the most significant factor” in vehicle-related fatalities and linked to the deaths of 71 people in the past five years”.
